„A good painting actually is a living organism. Just like the sea, it has its depths, shoals, and pitfalls, only it is more transient. Occasionally, there is melancholy in my paintings, they can be moving and I admit that my paintings are self-confident and recently rather uncompromising. They talk. And if not, then at least grumble. When they get out of the studio, they always surprise me. They are like living beings.”
Jan Merta for City Gallery of Prague, September 2016.
